Indie (i.e. Independent) movies are the ones made without support of big banner or big name. It also refers to art films which are different from mainstream masala flick. And such is our indie-English movie Drawing Blood. It is not easy for an indie film, to reach large number of audience, as it is not backed by big names. But surprisingly it is changing slowly. Drawing Blood itself has got more than 34k likes on facebook. More than 20 countries all over the world are talking about it. Over 20,000 artists are enthusiastic for watching the film. So we can see the trend is changing.

It is assumed that indie film can only be understood by intellectual class of people. It is meant only for such kind of people who are highly educated and knowledgeable. INDIE FILM PERSONIFIED-THE THIRD EYE

Drawing Blood has crossed about 33,700 Likes over Facebook, which is first of its kind. More than 20 countries are talking about it. Over 20,000 artists are enthusiastic for watching the film. Over the south of India, there were many press releases regarding the movie. And now the movie is going to start its promotional activity in Mumbai, that too in a totally different way.
The movie shall be a part of VISIONS 2013-THE THIRD EYE. It’s the Annual College fest of SIES COLLEGE OF ARTS, SCIENCE AND COMMERCE,SION WEST - MUMBAI.

VISIONS 2013 this year has a unique theme of The Third Eye. We all know about the third eye of lord Shiva. The third eye can see beyond the things that our both the eyes can see. All of us have the third eye inside us. It’s only we have to take efforts to unleash the mysteries around us. And this is how both Drawing Blood and Visions are connected to each other. While Visions has theme of the third eye which means to look beyond the things that we usually see, Drawing Blood also conveys through its story a message truly knowingly unknown and blind to our real eyes. Like we all feel that an artist has a colorful life from outside, but no one really sees beyond that. The movie has captured a life of an artist through third eye, that is, it has portrayed beyond what we see. The third eye is the link that connects Drawing Blood and Visions 2013 with each other.

The promotional activity begins Tomorrow, i.e. 14th October 2013 at SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Sion (West). Also there would be fun events / competitions, lucky draw from which you can get a chance to be part of special screening of the Drawing Blood. So be there to be part of this exciting phase, because this is going to be first of its kind activity. To witness the fun stay tuned to our links below for everyday excitement!!! See ya...

Drawing Blood, An indie film - A different view of cinema

Cinema is an art and has an important place in the society.  But in India-every form of art, be it music of theatre, is consumed by Bollywood. If we are not able to produce something beyond box-office numbers, then something is seriously wrong and there is a need to change it and it can be bought up only by a change within us.
Most good Indian films represent what is familiar to us. They intend to annoy or upset people with the same old stories. Independent movies challenge not only our habitual ways of watching a film but also our fixed ways of thinking about love, man, woman, morality and conventions. We, the audiences, need to find ways of looking at these films differently."There was a time in Indian Cinema. I think it was the black and white era when most Indian films were produced by NFDC (National Film Development Corporation). I think that was the golden period when films were made with passion and creativity. Today i think it is all about Bollywood and its stars in the last few years", says Tannishtha Chatterjee, the actress who fetched global recognition through Independent cinema. This is the state of Indian cinema and how we do not encourage Independent films in India. The main reason why Indian indie films are encouraged in International film festivals are as they want to embrace an alternate way of looking as well as enjoy such kind of films from around the world.
One such kind of movie is - Drawing Blood, which is an Indie film with a story revolving around a life of an artist/painter. The life of an artist is portrayed in the movie about how pale it can get although he paints colours, and i believe that each one of us has an artist deep inside of us and therefor should give a try to such a film and encourage it.

SIMPLY

And Each Man Kills The Things He Loves

“And each man kills the thing he loves,
By all let this be heard,
Some do it with a bitter look,
Some with a flattering word,
The coward does it with a kiss,
The brave man with a sword.”
                                                           -Oscar Wilde

After reading these lines the first thing that came in to my mind is that why has Oscar Wilde written such poem even though he was best known personalities during his time? He was one of the popular play writers. ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ and ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’, are some of the notable books by him. Then why did he feel that each man kills the things he loves. Then I read about him. And I came to know that his life collapsed after his lawsuit. Wilde was the one who instigated the lawsuit and therefore contributed to his own downfall - he killed the thing he loved. After imprisonment he exiled himself for three years. Such was his life. His much acclaimed novel ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’, was written by him during those days. Even though from outside we might find his life colorful, full of happiness, success. But from inside he was alone.

And this is what Drawing Blood is all about. All artists have to experience pain before giving the world a masterpiece. Because, there is no gain without pain. The movie is an emotional ride of colorless life of an artist. It reflects the process that artists have to go through in some way or the other. The director of the film, Maha said “Artists make colorful paintings but many of them lead a pale life. Painters / Artists are free birds of imagination and creation, they tend to picture moments that they experience or envision onto their canvas. If unsatisfied with their paintings, they can erase them and re-make them. But they cannot design their own real life incidents nor can they erase them or dispose them as they wish just as with paintings. Trying to understand some artist’s lives, I realized that if they haven’t felt or experienced “pain”, they cannot make “paintings”. These thoughts made me come up with the idea for Drawing Blood”.

                                                                                                                 - Prahelika Pai

Independent Movies

What makes movies  a blockbuster nowadays??  If the movie has entered the 100 crore club then whether or not it has a story or concept no one cares, all they look for is the “100 crore Club”.  And the most latest trend of them all “the 200 crore club” which in India are only two films i.e 3 Idiots and Chennai Express.
“This is a commercial field. The commerce allows it today to push films such as ‘The Lunchbox’ and ‘Ship of Theseus’ with the association of names like Kiran Rao, Karan Johar or Anurag Kashyap. If these work on a more regular basis, it will be a welcome trend. If they don’t, then even the big names will not lend their names. However, it indeed is somewhere helping to create a base of audiences for such films,” Sarthak Dasgupta, director of The Great Indian Butterfly said. In India audience for indie films are very less and this is due to the fact that these kinds of movies are not promoted and funded well by people in the industry.
Independent movies (known as Indie movie) are such movies which are distinguishable by their content and style and the way in which the filmmakers' personal artistic vision is realized. These kinds of movie are not produced by a high end production house neither are they distributed widely. These films are produced by people who are really passionate about hardcore filmmaking with a different concept and have a different point view from that of the world. Indie movies do not have raunchy item numbers or unnecessary dancing act. This kind of movies is what the society needs. Money making or being commercial is all the filmmakers’ want but actually filmmaking is an art which should have creativity first and followed by technology and business. The indie movies thrive on passion and innovation than the sale of tickets. And such is our Indie movie- ‘Drawing Blood’. It has emphasized on concept, on story which we can relate to our real life.

How did DRAWING BLOOD happen?

> HOW DID DRAWING BLOOD HAPPEN? - By Maha (Director & Producer)

As India is celebrating 100 yrs of Cinema, is our Cinema industry truly making 100% good quality films???
The amount of importance given to having a STAR cast, the least is concentrated on good concept stories.
Formula driven love stories, monotonous mass films, item numbers, is this the future development of Indian cinema that we would provide to our further generations ??
Once upon a time, there was the control of good technicians over the Indian Cinema, and now its laid under the foot of corporate biggies in terms of productions.
Our entertainment strategies have erased the barricades between Commercial and Realistic film-making.
By designing a good concept, how many years of penance does one have to do to gain attention from a corporate support???
Since birth till now, i have seen plenty of Internationally acclaimed good Indian Indie classic films throughout history. But i still would not understand as to - Why does the great Indian stories always portray the slavery, poverty, prostitution, the marital dark affairs, women objectification, violent corners of the societal issues, etc. Everytime?!
Why are Internationally acclaiming Indie films by good Indian film makers not able to release their films in theaters in this country???
We live in such an age, where we give more time and importance to work, our gadgets such as smart phones, tablets, laptops, or even TV, etc. than over our emotions, relations, bonds, or expressing affection, etc.
The world itself is a wonderful painting created by the greatest artist, the Almighty God.
There are millions of artists on this planet, and each artist has a hundred stories inside of him/her. At one time, the artist may die, but his/her art remains alive. Are all the artists/painters really living happily?!?
I saw a few of their lives pretty closely, they create brilliant colourful paintings but their lives are colourless. If an artist does not like his work, he/she may easily erase it, correct it, or just remove it. But even if they wish , they cannot correct, redo or erase their incidents or memories in real life.
This very thought was made into a good concept story and named Drawing Blood, as i began working on it.
December 6th, 2012, we began the shoot of the film in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (India)
Now the film's first copy is ready.
Me and my crew members-
Bheema (DOP), Kartik (Colourist), Murugan (Editor), Ramsay (Background score), Ramkey (Sound Designer), Kasa (Art Director) and VaayuDhwani (Dialogue Writer) rode on a struggling journey for 10 months to complete this film. At the end we have content-fully reached here.
It took me a lot of hard work and undue struggle to make this film. While i had no financier, nor am i a big producer. All i knew is that i believed in this film to happen, and with the love and support through my family, friends and well wishers i could make it this far. This film is made for everyone out there whom i wish to reach out and share it globally. But to fulfill that goal i need all the support that i can get from my dear artists, fans and people who are reading this.

Kindly share in your support by being a part of our FaceBook page here.
